The Story of the Prayer
Blanket By Pastor
Connie Hale
The Prayer Blanket idea was
birthed out of agonizing pain. When my son was in the
hospital at 17 years old and diagnosed with
Schizophrenia I was broken with heartache. God's word in
Jeremiah 29:11 literally saved my emotional life. God
says: "I know the plans I have for you says the Lord,
they are for good and not for evil and I give you a
future and a hope." God touched me and made me realize
that He was in control. He had a plan for me and for my
son. This plan was for good and not for evil. And when I
thought there was no hope He said, "I give you a future
and a hope." I believed every word and based my life
upon this powerful scripture.
When I was visiting my son
at the hospital. I noticed that the people on
psychiatric floor
seemed to be holding stuffed animals, hats, other small
items. It almost seemed that these concrete items
brought them comfort. I knew that blankets are items
that give people comfort so I went back to the church
and asked the women to make blankets that the patients
could use to keep warm. I attached a card with the
Jeremiah 29:11 scripture on each blanket. The
card stated that every time they would wrap this blanket
around them, they would think about God's loving arms
around them.
Today, hundreds of blankets
have gone out to hospitals and to nursing homes where
people are sick and need the comfort of God's love.
Imagine....
Over a simple blanket people have cried and even given
their hearts to Jesus.
